Burleson Looking For "Storm Victim" Volunteers

Stewart McKenzie
Burleson (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The City of Burleson needs help as it takes part in a full-scale tornado disaster drill. City officials are looking for 100 volunteers to play the role of storm victims. The drill is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 24.

Volunteers have to meet certain requirements. They must be in good physical condition and be at least 13-years-old. Volunteers also have to be available between 7:30 AM and 3 PM on the day of the drill.

Burleson is one of six cities across Texas to host the full-scale disaster drill. A city spokesperson says the scenario will play out as a tornado hitting the Burleson High School campus and an undeveloped neighborhood.

In a news release issued by the city, both sites will be marked with banners that say "Burleson Disaster Drill in Progress." Forty five agencies, from the fire department to Burleson I.S.D. to emergency and support services, will take part in the drill.

Volunteers must register before the date of the drill, Wednesday, June 24. The phone number to get more information or to sign up as a volunteer is (817) 295-5498, extension 225.
