Selena Hernandez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
New information is surfacing in the murder of a Dallas art student.
20-year old Samantha Nance was found stabbed to death inside her Dallas apartment September 11.
Police say they are interviewing people of interest and hope DNA results will help them find the suspect.
Samantha Nance is remembered as a talented and kind woman. She was in her third year at the Art Institute of Dallas. Her tragic death has rattled those in the small collegiate community.
It was last Friday when Nance's roommate made the gruesome discovery.
"This is defiantly an isolated incident, I think the individuals knew miss Nance. I don't think this was a stranger type crime" says Dallas Police Lieutenant Craig Miller.
Dallas police say among those they've questioned are two fellow students, including Nance's boyfriend. According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by CBS 11, police found suspicious evidence at the boyfriend's apartment.
In the boyfriend's bathroom a detective found a zip-lock bag that "appeared to have a large streak of dried blood on it."
And he also "observed a blood smear on the handle of the toilet."
Detectives also noted in the affidavit that the boyfriend "appeared to have fresh scratches on his chest and lower groin area."
Despite the evidence collected and sent for DNA testing no arrests have been made, as investigators want to make sure they have sufficient evidence to support an arrest.
"Just by the mere fact a person has certain items in their house doesnt mean were labeling them as the suspect. This time we have several people of interest were talking to during the course of this investigation" explains Lt. Miller.
The affidavit also mentions the boyfriend has a knife collection. Police say a knife was used in Nance's murder.
The results from the DNA test could take up to 10 days to process.
