Retailer Refuses To Honor Online Price Mistake

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The Marshalls only want the best for their little Sara.
"When I saw them I went, 'You know, I'm going to be able to get one of the best car seats for my child," said Jason Marshall.
Last month the couple ordered three Britax Marathon car seats online at Target.com. "One for each of our cars and one for Shayna's mom's car," Jason explained.
They say Target's Web site listed the car seat for $42.99. The normal price is $280.
"It's giving our child the best car seat at a very affordable price for us," said Shayna Marshall.
The Marshalls say they got a confirmation and shipping date. But then Target pulled the rug out from under the family.
"Three days later I received an e-mail from them saying the pricing was a mistake," Jason said. "We canceled all the orders."
The couple couldn't believe it. They called Target and were offered a $25 online gift card.
"Twenty-five dollars seems like a joke," Jason said.
In response, Target released this statement: "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the pricing error on Target.com."
It goes on to say that Target.com experienced a system pricing error that affected some items on the site, including the Britax car seat. Most car seat orders labeled with the incorrect price have been cancelled.
"I would say the chances are I will never step into a Target again," said Jason.
The Marshalls say they've been loyal customers, but they'll no longer be shopping at one of their favorite stores.
"It makes you want to become a Wal-Mart shopper," said Shayna.
