Siblings Recall Home Alone Home Invasion

Marianne Martinez
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A 12- and 14-year-old said they were not injured during a home invasion, because of their calm demeanors.

It was an experience that would have rattled most teen-agers, but a brother and sister -- who asked not to be identified – said they had no other choice but to stay calm.

They say five people broke into their home in the middle of the afternoon Thursday.

The 12 year old brother said he heard a noise and came downstairs.

"They said, 'Don't move' or they'll shoot me, but they weren't gonna, I think."

The suspects pushed the boy onto the floor and put duct tape over his eyes, hands and feet. They then went upstairs to the bathroom, where the sister had been taking a shower.

"They grabbed me and told me the same thing as my brother -- to be quiet or they'll shoot," she recalled.

That's what the siblings did -- for the entire half hour the suspects ransacked their home.

The thieves went from room to room and took anything that was valuable.

The master closet was "turned upside down," the family said.

Once the suspects left, the brother was able to get free and then untied his sister.

The family installed new locks and these kids try not to stay home alone.

Despite anger over the loss of their belongings, this pair knows what's important: "I'm really glad that I wasn't hurt or my brother."
The family said they may been targeted or that the suspects may have cased the home because when the suspects first entered, they asked the brother where his sister was.

Fort worth Police continue their investigation.
