Teens Crash Car Into Fort Worth Restaurant

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Four teens had to be pulled to safety by police after they smashed a car into a Mexican restaurant in northwest Fort Worth.

The driver crashed into Hernandez Mexican Foods. Wednesday afternoon workers were still repairing the building at 1513 NW 25th Street. Most of the damage to the restaurant was limited to one corner of the building.

The incident began when police say they attempted to pull over a car that was swerving on the roadway. When everything was over, police said they believe the four teens in the vehicle had been involved in some sort of crime spree.

The driver of the car sped away as police tried to stop the vehicle and moments later lost control and slammed into the restaurant.

Police began chasing the driver of the Dodge Intrepid and its passengers in Samson Park. Four teenagers, all without driver's licenses, were inside the car.

"The car did catch fire and the officers had to take the windows out with their batons and extract the people from the vehicle to get them to safety," said Det. Sgt. Tom Milner with the Samson Park Police Department.

Police say they found two stolen purses in the car. Authorities linked the purses to vehicle burglaries in Saginaw. Police say there was also a large amount of marijuana found inside the vehicle.

All four teenagers were taken to a local hospital; three of them had been released by Wednesday afternoon. Three of those teenagers are 16-years-old, the other is 15-years-old.

The teens face a variety of charges including - felony failure to stop, drug possession, and theft.
