Family Of Teens Killed In Wreck Talk With CBS 11
IRVING (CBS 11 News) ―
The families of two North Texas teens killed Thursday night in Irving say amateur video reportedly taped that night does not show their sons just before their deaths.
Brad Wright and Derek Smith were both killed in a crash while riding their motorcycles along Highway 161 at Highway 183 late Thursday.
Family and friends have been coming to a makeshift memorial at the crash site, and they say they want to clear up some things about the crash.
Brad Wright's brother Cody Dollar struggles to find the words, but he wants to defend his younger brother.
He says viewer video given to CBS 11 showing motorcyclists doing tricks on the highway is not of his brother, or of their friend Derek Smith.
"My brother and his friend didn't have their bikes that long, they couldn't possibly do that."
Another friend, Jordan Gulley, was riding with the two Thursday night. He says they weren't even with the group in the video.
"We went out for a ride and it went bad up on the bridge I saw Derek hit the wall and go over and then Brad I saw his bike and came down here and this is where they were."
Jordan was the one who called 9-1-1. He says he came back to the accident scene for closure. So did James Silva, he's Derek's Uncle.
"We are all going through a really rough time right now anything we can do to put closure to it that's what we are going to try to do."
Solace right now means remembering the two friends, and setting the record straight.
Brad's family wanted to also clear up that both teens were wearing their helmets. CBS 11 contacted Irving Police to ask what roll the video might play into the investigation.
Funeral services for the two are set for Monday. Brad Wright's funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville. Derek's will be at 1:30 p.m. at Compass Christian Church.
