Beaten Elderly Woman's Car Found In Terrell

(CBS 11 News) Terrell police have found an abandoned car registered to a 93-year-old woman found severely beaten in her home late Tuesday.

Wynell Swafford Bournes was found inside her Terrell home Tuesday night by a relative. A neighbor called family members when they hadn't heard from the widow in days. The relative who went to the house called police about 5 p.m. when they found Bournes' lying on the kitchen floor.

The elderly woman had serious head injuries and was not been able to tell police much about what happened, but they note there were signs of a struggle inside the house.

Police said her missing 1999 red Ford Taurus was found just before midday Wednesday in an alley behind the First Assembly of God in Terrell. A church janitor told CBS 11 she noticed the car there about 8 p.m. Monday.

Police believe robbery was the motive and confirm several personal items were taken from house.

Neighbors said Bournes had lived at the house for about 20 years.

Authorities will continue to investigate and collect evidence from both the house and car. They suspect the attack could have happened as early as Monday, but do not have a specific time frame.
