Terrell Soldier Killed In Action Laid To Rest
TERRELL (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
As the U.S. Army comes to grips with one of the deadliest shootings every on a military post, there are more tears in North Texas as a soldier killed last week was laid to rest.
Army Medic Shawn McNabb was killed ten days ago in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
McNabb was recognized with full military honors Friday. His mother and father led a flank of family and friends out of Terrell's First Baptist Church.
But it was the homegrown feel of the people of Terrell who made the day, showing their support of the fallen soldier.
Folks paying tribute like Yvetta Ransom. Her daughter Lonquenthia joined the Army alongside McNabb right out of high school.
"Shawn was a wonderful young man. Shawn wanted to serve our country. He served our country well. He was doing the job he wanted to do."
And the people of Rerrell did what they've done before. In honor of those lost in action they lined the streets. This time for the 24-year old Army medic.
"He was always a go-getter. Everything he wanted to do, he did. He was always on the fast track whatever he did" said friend Blair Lindsey.
"He was raised to help people, he would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it" remembered friend Amber McDonald.
Ever residents like Don Tankersley, who may not have necessarily known McNabb, paid tribute. "I think it's important for us to pay our respects to all the men and women fighting for our country and dying for our freedoms. It's the least we can do."
From Terrell, along the city's main thoroughfare, Shawn McNabb was laid to rest at the DFW National Cemetery.
