In just a few days, 228 Texas Democrats will be in Colorado for their national convention.
Between the airfare, hotel and meals, being a delegate isn't cheap. Some North Texas delegates are scrambling, trying to raise money to pay for their trips. To help pay for the expenses, some are having their own fundraisers.
It will cost Moore between three to five thousand dollars to go to Colorado for the Democratic National Convention. It will be her first.
"Instead of that vacation to Vegas - or where ever else I would be going - this is by far a more valuable experience to me," Delegate Erin Moore said. "I am anxious and excited," she said.
Just days before heading to the convention, she is doing some last minute fundraising. "Anything that I get is more than I had," she said.
Delegate Levar Thomas is feeling the pinch too. "I think hotel is about $1,000," he said. "I was lucky to have a birthday recently so instead of gifts, people decided to donate money to me."
The political junky echoes his fellow delegate. "There is no way I wasn't going to go," he said.
The two admit it's an expensive trip, but a historic one which they no doubt they will be talking about for years to come.
The convention starts Monday. Senator Obama is expected to give his speech on Thursday. The Republican convention will take place in about two weeks in Minneapolis.
