3 Local Teens Killed Over July 4th Weekend

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Three teens were tragically killed over the 4th of July weekend.

The latest death occurred just after 11 p.m. Saturday.

Juanita Payne was attending a birthday party on East Red Bird Lane when a fight broke out. Someone pulled out an assault rifle and fired. The 15-year-old was caught in the crossfire.

Payne was rushed to Methodist Hospital where she died. She was just a few weeks shy of her 16th birthday.

Payne was a student at South Oak Cliff High School. Her family says she was on the honor roll and had dreams of becoming a pediatrician. They say she was never in trouble and was always smiling.

The family says they want the shooter, who is still at large, to be punished. Payne will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Early Saturday morning, police say a group of friends were sitting in a car on Clayborn Court in Arlington when a gun belonging to one of the teens went off. Francisco Martinez, 17, was killed.

The 17-year-old boy accused of shooting Martinez is wanted for criminally negligent homicide. Police have not released his name.

Friday night, C'Andrea Donnelle was hit by a stray bullet. Police said the alleged shooter was arguing with the girl's step father moments earlier.
