Officials: Dallas Child Left In Van For 6 Hours

Compiled From Staff And Wire Reports
DALLAS Dallas police investigators say they believe a toddler was left in a van for six hours Monday. Police say Kamila Brown was in the vehicle from about 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Police say a 30-year-old man took the 19-month-old to the fire department for medical treatment Monday afternoon. Authorities said the toddler was treated at the station and then transported to Children's Medical Center, where she died.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy on the child, but initially said the results were inconclusive and would have to run more tests. They have not released an official statement.

Kamila attended Tyne Gifted Achieves Day and Night Care. Police believe someone there may have left her in the daycare van. Tuesday investigators searched that daycare and another owned by the same person.

Child Care Licensing has launched an investigation into possible violations into transportation and neglect standards at the facility. The agency is familiar with the daycare. They found violations in seven out of seven inspections from March 2007 to May 2008.

The violations include: a van driver not requiring children to wear seat belts; van driver without current first aid training; van driver supervising too many children; and children lacking current immunizations.

According to state records, all the violations had been corrected.

Police have not released the man's name. Officials also won't disclose if he worked for the daycare.

Police have not yet said if they have made any arrests.
