Woman Receives 5 Years In Prison For Lover's Death

Tears, Regret Expressed During Testimony

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Tracy Roberson was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on Friday. Monday, a jury sentenced her to five years in prison.

Roberson was convicted in the death of her former lover, Devin LaSalle. Her husband, Darrell, shot and killed LaSalle after his wife claimed she was being raped.

Darrell Roberson was in the courtroom to comfort their three children, ages 18, 13 and 9. The children broke out into hysterics after learning their mother's sentence. Darrell will not serve any time for the murder.

Devin LaSalle was shot and killed outside Roberson's Arlington house in December of 2006. That night Darrell Roberson had returned home from a poker game to find his wife and LaSalle having sex in a truck parked outside.

Tracy later admitted that she had lied and was a willing participant in the sexual activity.

Tracy Roberson took the stand just before 2 p.m. Monday. She began by telling the jury how her husband would sleep during the day and gamble all night.

Tracy Roberson also testified about her relationship with LaSalle. She said they met in the fall of 2006. Roberson testified that she and LaSalle were both having problems at home at the time, and they consoled each other.

Roberson fought back tears at one point during her testimony. She described lying about being raped and said, "If I could take it all back I would. This is a lose-lose; no winners here." She also said she was "truly sorry" and that she "never meant for this to happen."

Earlier Monday her defense team called more than a half dozen character witnesses including a school assistant principal and Tracy's niece, aunt and daughter. Her relatives talked about the woman's remorse for LaSalle, and how she prayed for forgiveness about the affair.

Tracy and some witnesses who testified wept while talking about how hard it would be to raise her three children if she goes to prison.

Roberson's attorney, Jill Davis, asked that the jury to give Roberson probation for the crime. The defense wanted her to receive 10 years in prison. The jury split the difference, giving Roberson 5 years in prison.

Roberson will be eligible for parole in two and a half years.
