Teen's Dream May Have Been Stolen With Gun
GODLEY (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A 16-year-old from Godley is in a race against the clock. He's competing in the Junior Olympics in Denver in three weeks. His event is trap shooting.
His problem is that he doesn't have a gun. It was stolen. His family hopes his dream wasn't stolen with it.
His name is Dakota Richardson. He only picked up the international trap shooting sport a year ago. He qualified for the Junior Olympics when he missed just 10 out of 125 clay traps.
"I'm very excited about it. It's my dream," Dakota said. The closest international trap shooting range is in St. Joe's. "I train three days a week. I drive 2 and a half hours up there and 2 and a half hours back Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday," Dakota said.
Today, he shot 25 rounds of skeet at a range in Burleson and missed all but one clay skeet. He was using a borrowed gun.
Recalling how his son's gun was stolen, John Richardson said, "They knocked out my window and took my DVD player, iPod and camera. Then they come in here and stole my boy's gun that was lying back in here."
Dakota's 15-thousand dollar Italian made "Perazzi" competition shotgun was stolen from his Dad's truck when his dad went to Anthony's Place in Fort Worth yesterday for lunch.
John was visibly upset. "He's been practicing every day. It's bull for someone to take his gun for no reason," He said.
Dakota's "Oakley" shooting glasses and competition vest with his name on the front and back were also stolen. But, it's the gun he'll need if he wants to compete.
"You have to have a gun like that to shoot in major competitions," Dakota said.
Dakota's gun had a custom stock. It was designed to fit his face.
"Anybody could help us find a gun or whatever," John said choking back tears.
If not, Dakota's dream of going to the Junior Olympics may be shot.
He supposed to be there July 23rd. Before that, there are the Nationals which are set for July 12 through the 14th.
