Texans With Character: John and Angel Bright
(CBS 11 / TXA 21)
This week's Texan with Character is a mother and father honoring their daughter while bringing hope to others.
John and Angel Bright's entire world came crashing down on March 13, 2007.
"I'll never forget sitting in a doctor's office and she told us
you don't even hear it. We looked at each other we looked back at each other and the doctor was crying and we said, "what did you just say?"
The doctor told the parents their daughter, Trinity, had an inoperable brain tumor an entrinsic difuse spotneoma -- and had six to 12 months to live.
She lived to 7.
Although seven year old trinity bright lost the battle to cancer, her parents are still fighting to save others.
"My daughter always wanted to be a police man -- a police women," John Bright explained.
Since his daughter couldn't, John Bright did. He's spent the past seven months in the Fort Worth Police Academy and graduated on Sept. 26.
"So many people came forward, stepped up to help us out during that difficult time so I have to pay everybody back. This is the best way I know how to do it," he said.
The Brights are now on a mission to help other families facing cancer and help find a cure.
They have organized a 5K run and 1 mile fun run in Trinity's honor to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
"If we help one person, then I feel like I have done my job," Angel Bright said.
