North Texan Looking For Work: Mark Wagenhurst

FORT WORTH (TXA 21 NEWS) ― TXA 21 continues the crusade to help North Texans get back in the workforce. This week's Get-A-Job Candidate is Mark Wagenhurst.

One of the industries that we rarely think of being impacted by the economy is the arts. Jobs are scarce everywhere, but Mark continues to press on and hopes to soon 'raise the curtain' on his next job.

Mark is doing anything he can to find stable work. He says his unemployment insurance is about to run out. He's been out of work for 18 months. "Ahhhh long time. I'm not good at this," he said. "I like to get in. I like to have a project. I like to be working."

Mark works in the theater business. His last position was as a project manager at a character shop. He worked on the 'Barney and Friends' dino cave.

Mark, who has also worked as a stage and facility manager, says the long search for work has been frustrating. "Entry level positions require one year experience. I took a period of time and tried to get into call centers," he explained. "[But] I don't have enough experience. Well I can't get a year now 'cause I can't get in the door."

Mark thinks his backstage theater management skill-set is easily transferable to the corporate world. "I think I could work as a facility manager or office manager. My PowerPoint presentations… I always describe them as being 'fly'. I'm very organized."
