Signs Welcome The Bushes Back Home To Dallas

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― It's a sign of the times.

With former President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush now leaving office, some of their new neighbors in Dallas' Preston Hollow neighborhood want to welcome them home.

So a North Texas college student began designing and selling yard signs to welcome them.

Patrick Bibb, who grew up near the area, is a sophomore and economics major at TCU in Fort Worth.

"A lot of people care. A lot of people are interested, and I thought, 'Why not come up with a yard sign?'" Bibb said.

He's selling the signs for $20 each, and says he'll donate $2 from each sign to Pershing Elementary School's library in honor of Mrs. Bush. His goal is to raise $1,000 for the school.

Debbie Sherrington, the school's PTA president, said everyone at the school is excited.

Bibb says it was an easy decision because Mrs. Bush is a former librarian. "She's really been supporting libraries," he said. "The school is right down the street from my house and is where my brother went to school."

Bibb has already sold 450 signs, 250 were sold this past weekend alone. Bibb had a sign in his own yard until he ran out and sold the last one he had. Fifty people are on a waiting list.

Seventeen-year-old Marylyn Toledo's family bought one. "I think it's a good way to show we care and a good way to welcome them back," she said.

Bibb says any profits he earns will help pay for his college tuition and books. "I want to show my parents that they did a good job," he said.
