New Bio-Diesel Station To Open In Central Texas

Reporting

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Thursday, country music legend Willie Nelson unveiled his commitment to help make the nation become energy independent. He made the announcement from the newly renovated and expanded Willie's Place Truck Stop.
The truck stop is located in Carl's Corner, which is north of Hillsboro and about 60 miles south of Dallas.
To help celebrate, Nelson and other artists held a week-long series of concerts.
When it reopens in September, the stop will produce and pump bio-diesel. It's a mix of vegetable and animal fat oil blended with diesel fuel.
Nelson says bio-diesel will help reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil.
At $4.70 a gallon, some are concerned about the high cost of bio-diesel. But Nelson says there's a way to keep costs lower than regular diesel.
"I think that's the important thing is to be able to grow it locally, produce it and sell it locally," said Nelson. "You by pass transportation costs, for one thing, and the pollution transportation."

Nelson will also be turning his new place into a large entertainment complex with restaurants, shops and of course a theatre for musical acts to perform.
