Man Shot, Killed In Broad Daylight At Garland Park

(CBS 11 / TXA 21) A Labor Day celebration at Lake Ray Hubbard was cut short after a deadly shooting at Windsurf Bay Park in Garland.

Police say the man was gunned down just before 7 p.m. Witnesses say multiple shots were fired. The victim was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the stomach.

"I heard a pop, pop, pop. I thought it was firecrackers at first," said Reginald Martin, a witness.

"There's a guy who was screaming. We heard some shots and we saw some bullets hit the ground," said another witness, Leslie Lawson. "The guy ran across the road and as soon as he got to where the poles are, he hit the dirt."

John Jackson tried to administer CPR on the victim. "He got shot and had two bloody wounds in the chest," said Jackson. "I started doing CPR on him, and he started turning blue in the face."

The shooter fled the scene, but Garland police were able to catch and arrest him.

"I saw a red SUV that sped off," said Martin. "I dialed 911 and just told them what I saw."

"We've taken two people into custody, taken them to the police department. We've started questioning them to see if in fact it is our suspects and what the circumstances were around the shooting," said Joe Harn, Garland Police Department.
