Fort Worth Oil Man Hurt In Wise County Plane Crash

RHOME (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A plane crashed in Wise County Tuesday afternoon.

The FAA says at about 2:45 it got a call from a plane that was headed to Fort Worth's Meacham Airport from Oklahoma City.  The pilot reported that both engines had failed.

The plane, a Beechcraft King Air B100, went down near Rhome, in southern Wise County.  The crash site is about 13 miles west of Texas Motor Speedway.

Wise County authorities say all four people on the plane were hurt in the crash.  Paramedics were taking them to area hospitals.  The FAA described all the injuries as "serious."

The pilot and one other man were rushed to Fort Worth hospitals by helicopter.  The other crash victims were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital by ambulance.

Dozens of firefighters, paramedics, police, sheriff's deputies, and state troopers responded to the crash.  "This time we pulled up, and realized, this is what we've got to do.  We've got to start taking care of some people and keep the scene secure," explained Cpl. Chris Peek with the Wise County Sheriff's Department.

Chopper 11 video showed the fuselage of the plane largely intact as it rested in a field.  The left wing and horizontal stabilizer had been sheared off, and part of the plane's nose was destroyed.

The twin-engine plane seats 11 people.

The plane is owned by Robert Schumacher, a 1950 graduate of TCU and a longtime Fort Worth oil man.  A woman we spoke to at Schumacher Oil says Schumacher and two other company officials were on board the plane when it crashed.  Diane Harbor identifies the other men as Jerry Namy and Jim Wilkes.  The pilot's name is not known.

Schumacher is hospitalized in Fort Worth in critical condition.  Namy is in serious condition.  The conditions of Wilkes and the plane's pilot were not known.
