Sansom Park Elderly Woman Found Dead In Her Shed

SANSOM PARK (CBS 11 News) ― Dora Perez was concerned about safety. Neighbors say she always kept the secure gates to her house locked.

Police say there had been no reports of crime at her house until her violent death. The crime happened in the Tarrant County community of Sansom Park, just outside of Fort Worth.

Police say the 73-year-old woman was beaten to death, and her body was found in a shed in her backyard. Even police are calling this crime disturbing, saying the motive was likely brutal murder and possibly rape.

"Somebody would have to be really sick to commit a crime like this," said Tony White, Sansom Park Police.

Perez lived alone. Originally from morocco, she met her Airforce husband when he was oversees during World War II.

"She really loved my uncle," said her nephew, Juan Perez.

When he died three years ago, neighbors would check on her regularly. They became concerned when she started corresponding with two prisoners.

"She would say, 'I got a letter. Can you read it for me?'" said her neighbor, Patricia Turnate.

Police say the prisoners she wrote to are still behind bars and they're not calling them suspects.

But since Perez's body was found Wednesday night, police say they've been tirelessly gathering evidence in hopes to find who's responsible for the violent death.
