Wylie Police Standoff Ends With Suspect Death
WYLIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Residents and school children were kept out of a Wylie neighborhood Monday afternoon because a man was barricaded in a house and threatened to shoot police.
The standoff started around 11 a.m. Wylie officials say a man in his late 20s was involved in a domestic disturbance and locked himself in the home.
The McKinney SWAT Team was called because Wylie doesn't have a SWAT Team. Early Monday evening shots were exchanged and the suspect was killed.
Students at four nearby schools who live in the area weren't allowed to walk or ride the bus into their neighborhood because of the risk. Their parents had to pick them up.
Four Wylie schools were on lockdown: Dodd Elementary, Birmingham Elementary, McMillan Junior High and Davis Intermediate.
The schools were dismissed at their normal times, but kids who live in the area around the standoff were not allowed to leave on their own.
"I just didn't want them to come home and see police on the street," said Sarah Churchwell, a resident of the neighborhood who picked up her children from school. "Even if things were resolved, I didn't want them to come home and wonder what happened. So I decided to pick them up and bring them home."
Wylie police and The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
