Mavs Kick Off Season With 'Fan Jam'

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Fall is officially here and it means more than fall for North Texas. The Dallas Mavericks are set to kick-off the upcoming season, but before the first tip-off takes place, the team took time to honor their fans.

"This is the stuff I live for. I love the Mavericks, so any chance I get to see them is always something real good to have," Mavs fan Tim Tallant said of his experience at the annual 'Mavs Fan Jam' event Friday night at the American Airlines Center.

Hundreds of fans came armed with their game day gear -- hats, jerseys and posters -- all ready to be adorned with Mavs' autographs.

"It's always great to be up close and get to meet them – we're having a blast!" Mavs forward and star player Dirk Nowitzki said of meeting his fans.

The pre-season excitement played out at the Mavs Fan Jam event, one Mavs owner, Mark Cuban says is done in appreciation for the fans.

"Times are hard for a lot of people and to be able to offer something and not have to spend any money – hopefully they'll buy some popcorn – but it's a win-win," Cuban said.

For fans, it's a free shot to see the team in action and to meet their favorite players.

"I think it's really great because it builds fan appreciation and for season ticket holders, it makes us feel like we're more a part of the team," Lois Good said.

Even for the littlest fans like Paige Campos.

"I get to say I love him!"

For the Mavs, it's an opportunity to reciprocate the support and to use the fanfare to fuel the excitement for an upcoming season.

"It's great to see the fans respect what I do. It's great," Nowitzki said, who's rested, rejuvenated and ready to play ball.

"If we play hard – and play together, anything is possible."

The Mavs are set to take-on the Orlando Magic Monday night in the first pre-season home opener.
