Congressman To Move Office From Low-Rent NYC Apt

NEW YORK (AP) ― A newspaper reports that U.S. Rep. Charles B. Rangel will move his campaign office out of one of four rent-stabilized apartments he leases in Manhattan.

The New York Times reports on its Web site Tuesday that Rangel will leave the one-bedroom apartment he paid for with money from campaign funds.

City and state guidelines require rent-stabilized homes be used as residences.

Rangel spokesman Emile Milne says the congressman will not discuss the details of his decision.

The Times reported Friday that Rangel occupies the rent-stabilized apartments at the Lenox Terrace complex in Harlem. His family uses three of the four.

The congressman is one of New York's most influential politicians and the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
