NYC Man Found Guilty In Student's Rape, Torture

NEW YORK (CBS) ― An ex-convict has been found guilty in the 19-hour rape and torture case of Columbia University graduate student, reports CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City. Jury deliberations began Tuesday morning in the case against Robert Williams, who was found guilty on 44 of 46 counts.

The victim testified Williams repeatedly raped her, slit her eyelids, scalded her, and hung her from her arms during the terrifying 19-hour attack in her upper Manhattan apartment last year.

Prosecutors wanted Williams convicted on attempted murder charges, saying he tried to burn the victim alive. But the defense said there was no proof of that.

Williams faces life in prison.
