More People Arrested From Texas Polygamist Sect

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ― A state law enforcement official says five indicted members of a polygamist sect in West Texas have turned themselves in to authorities.

The official, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, was not authorized to talk on the record until after a news conference by Attorney General Greg Abbott later Monday.

The five men were indicted last week with Warren Jeffs, the already-jailed leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jeffs and four others were charged in Texas with felony sexual assault of a child. The fifth was charged with failing to report child abuse. One of the five was also charged with bigamy.

The official says the men turned themselves in in Schleicher County, where the FLDS runs the Yearning For Zion Ranch.
