Warren Jeffs Wants Incest Charges Dropped

 CBS News Interactive: Sexual Assault

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) ― Lawyers for imprisoned polygamist leader Warren Jeffs will ask a judge to drop incest charges this afternoon in an Arizona courtroom.

The charges stem from two arranged marriages between teenage girls and their older male relatives. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints leader is charged as an accomplice.

Jeffs' lawyers say prosecutors can either file sex with a minor charges or incest charges, but not both and they want the incest charges dismissed.

Jeffs was convicted last year in Utah of rape as an accomplice in the arranged marriage of a 14-year-old girl and her 19-year-old cousin. He was sentenced to two terms of five years to life in prison.
