For dozens of Washington-area children, the "golden ticket" turned out to be a White House holiday reception -- complete with a performance of "Willy Wonka."
President Bush and first lady Laura Bush played host as the kids' cheers and giggles filled the East Room.
All the kids have parents serving in the military overseas, and the president had a holiday message for them -- suitable for the Internet age.
He said, "E-mail your mom or dad" -- and tell them "how much the commander-in-chief respects them, admires them and supports them."
The performance of "Willy Wonka" by a cast from the nearby Kennedy Center was an abbreviated version of Roald Dahl's classic. It's about a youngster who wins a golden ticket to the Wonka chocolate factory -- and is rewarded for his honesty and character.
