New Evidence May Contradict Clemens' Testimony

Report: Clemens Joked About Wife's Surgery At Canseco's 1998 Barbecue

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Roger Clemens' legal problems are mounting.

There's word his testimony on Capitol Hill about steroid use may lead to an investigation by the Justice Department.

He was under oath when he testified on Capitol Hill. The question now is did he lie? There's apparently new evidence that contradicts some of Clemens' denials.

The House committee Clemens testified before two weeks ago is reportedly ready to ask the Justice Department to investigate whether the baseball star committed perjury. A key point revolves around a 1998 barbecue at former Major Leaguer Jose Canseco's home. It's there that Clemens' former trainer, Brian McNamee, says Clemens discussed steroid use.

""I don't remember his party," Clemens said under oath before Congress.

But reports indicate that a photo has surfaced showing Clemens was there. Another report has put Clemens' wife, Debbie, right back in the middle of this controversy.

"She feels like a pawn in (McNamee's) game," Roger Clemens said before Congress.

The new report says Roger Clemens often joked about a memorable scene from the Canseco barbecue, when his wife and Canseco's then-wife, Jessica, compared the results of their breast augmentation surgeries.

Roger Clemens swore to tell the truth a few weeks ago before Congress.

"I'm going to continue to go out and do the things that I love to do," he said in his testimony. "And try and be honest and genuine to every person I can be."

If he's not he could face prison time.

Clemens showed up at the Houston Astros' camp in Kissimmee, Fla., on Tuesday as a volunteer, but he did not volunteer any answers on the latest revelations.
