Dangerous Dogs Listed On New Arlington Website

PAM HARRIS
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― An Arlington man claims his neighbor's pit bulls attacked and killed his pet dog George.

The attack happened last Friday when, according to Jarrett Bey, pit bulls came through his neighbor's fence and attacked his dog.

"He was bitten bad. He had two chest punctures so there wasn't a lot they could do," said Bey.

The vet had to put down the 4-year-old dog.

The attack is still under investigation, but the owner of the pit bull may be dealing with more than an attack charge.

The pit bull involved in the attack may end up on a dangerous dog list.

The City of Arlington has a new Website that lists where dangerous dogs live in the city. The Website shows the dog's picture and what it did to make the list.

"It'll say whether they've attacked a human or whether they attacked a domestic animal," said Ray Rentschler, Arlington Animal Services.

Last year there were 103 reports of animal attacks in Arlington. Officials are hoping the Website will send a message to owners with aggressive dogs to be more responsible.

"I don't want anyone else to have to deal with this," said Bey. "I don't want any young children to be attacked."

Currently, 24 dogs are listed on the Website.

Dog owners can appeal if their dog is considered to be dangerous. But if they lose that appeal, the dogs will be on the dangerous list for the rest of their lives.
