Free Program Provides Access To Therapeutic Ponies
CORINTH, Texas (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Five-year-old Nadia Miller was on top of the world. Monday afternoon, that world was Snowflake, a therapeutic pony at
Spirit Horse Therapeutic Center in Corinth.
Nadia was born without arms and a leg shorter than the other, but that didn't stop the feisty girl from Flower Mound from celebrating her birthday in style.
"She loves telling people that she rides horses, and it's something she can do on her own," said Nadia's mother, Tammy Miller. "She loves doing it."
Nadia has been riding at Spirit Horse since she was two.
The free program gives hundreds of children like her with physical and mental disabilities a chance to learn the healing and therapeutic power of horses.
"If you really know a horse and understand a horses mind, and see how these horses react to these children it touches your heart," said Chris Cox, a world-famous horse trainer.
"That's probably the only time in her life to where she's ever controlled a situation," Cox said. "She feels in rhythm, she feels in harmony and that pony's connected with her."
It's a connection that won't be broken and a birthday gift she'll never forget.
