Hundreds Of Dogs Rescued From Montague Puppy Mill
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Hundreds of dogs rescued from a suspected puppy mill arrived in Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon. Volunteers with the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) say they worked over the holiday weekend to rescue more than 500 dogs.
Officials with the Humane Society say the animals were being kept in cruel conditions at a puppy mill in Montague County.
The Montague County Sheriff's Department began an investigation after receiving a number of tips about neglected animals that were in need of veterinary care.
"We have saved hundreds of dogs today, and know that they will one day bring joy to someone in the near future," said Sandy Grambort with the HSNT.
To help with the transportation and care of the animals PetSmart Charities donated hundreds of dog crates, pallets of dog food and water bowls.
The rescued animals will be temporarily housed in the Fort Worth stockyards. Volunteers with United Animal Nations (UAN) will help staff the temporary shelter for the next two weeks.
After undergoing veterinary care some of the dogs will be put up for adoption.
Anyone interested in making a contribution to the HSNT or finding out adoption information can log on to theĀ
