20 Neglected Animals Seized In Alvarado

ALVARADO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― More than a dozen neglected animals have been seized by the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.

On Friday morning, Sheriff's officers executed a warrant on a property in the 300 block of County Road 615, in Alvarado.

Officials had been investigating the property for about a week after being notified that non-livestock animals there were in need of urgent care.

During the search 19 dogs and one goose were found. According to officials with the North Texas Humane Society, the dogs ranged in age from young puppies to adults, and they suffered from varied conditions including - malnutrition, dehydration, mange, fleas and ticks.

There were two adult males located on the property. One man was taken into custody on charges of Cruelty to Animals and an arrest warrant is expected to be issued for the second man.
