Dallas Zoo Officials To Create New Plan For Jenny

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Dallas council members adhered to the cries of elephant activist concerned about the last remaining elephant at the Dallas Zoo.

After the death of Keke the Elephant back in May, zoo officials had planed on sending Jenny the Elephant to the "Africam Safari Park" in Mexico. There the 31-year-old elephant could live out the rest of her days with more of her kind.

But animal activists believed that would be a mistake. They filled the Dallas City Council Meeting Room on Wednesday to express why Jenny should go to "The Elephant Sanctuary" instead.

Actress Lily Tomlin joined in the protest. She sent a letter to Mayor Tom Leppert, urging him to send Jenny to Tennessee.

The Dallas City Council listened to the protesters and decided the Dallas Zoo needed to come up with a new plan for Jenny. Council members didn't give the zoo a time frame on when they should have a new plan in place.
