Garland Adopts Out Lost Dog, Owner Wants It Back
GARLAND (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Fallon McDonald's dog is gone, and she may never get it back.
"He's the type of dog that, every time I've ever been sick, he gets up on the bed and lays next to me until I get well," said McDonald. "If I cry, he nudges me with his nose to make sure I'm okay."
The City of Garland's Animal Services Division found a new owner for Memphis the Schnauzer.
Earlier this month, McDonald lost Memphis and posted signs in her neighborhood in an effort to find him. But by the time she tried to retrieve her pet from the city pound, a new family had adopted the dog and won't give it back.
"The people told him that they adopted him for another family member, and the family member is really happy with him," said McDonald. "They're not bringing him back."
Animal services say owners have a time limit to claim their pets. In this case, McDonald's window had closed.
"It was a highly desirable dog, had a good temperament," said Jason Chessher, Garland Health Department. "It was immediately adopted."
McDonald says she contacted animal shelter within the required time frame to get her dog back. Animal Services says they have no record of her contacting them before the dog was adopted out.
Animal Services officials say the dog had no tags and therefore no way of contacting the dog's owner. If the dog had tags, owners have a six-day window to pick up the dog.
