37 Pit Bulls Seized From Johnson County House

JOHNSON COUNTY (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Johnson County animal cruelty investigators have seized 37 pit bulls from a home north of Venus.

Four of the dogs were found dead in the 3900 block of Reese Drive . The remaining dogs are now at the Human Society of North Texas.

According to Tammy Hawley, director of operations for the Human Society of North Texas, many of the animals have injuries indicative of being involved in dog fights. The dogs will receive medical treatment and undergo a complete health check by Human Society veterinarians.

Investigators at the scene reportedly said the dogs were kept on heavy chains that were tied to car axles and anchored in the ground. The dogs were kept eight to 10 feet from each other.

Investigators are obtaining a search warrant for the property in order to gather more evidence.

A custody hearing concerning the animals is scheduled for early July.
