Cat Uses 1 Life To Ride Under Hood Of Minivan

A woman finds a cat wrapped around the engine of her mini-van.

A woman found an unexpected visitor under the hood of her minivan Thursday.
Seeking a warm place, a one-year-old domesticated short-hair wrapped himself around the engine and wouldn't budge.
Baltimore resident Sandra Lanier decided to drive the feline to the Maryland SPCA.
"Since no one could get him out, I just took my chances (driving him) because I knew once he got to the SPCA they would care for him. He would get the care he needed and possibly a home too," said Lanier.
Examining room technician Mary Reinhardt worked for 10 minutes to free the cat. They even gave the engine-loving cat the nickname, "Hemi."
"He's not neutered, so a lot of these cats like to go outside and this is what happens," Reinhardt said. "They kind of get smart as to where they can stay warm, and an engine is one of the places."
Hemi's paws were burned, and it was hot under the hood.
"When we brought him in, we first took his temperature and it was about 106," Reinhardt said. "We gave him fluids, started him on antibiotics right away and pain medication."
Veterinarians say Hemi is one lucky. He is expected to make a full recovery.
An animal rescue organization from Virginia picked up Hemi Wednesday morning. The group will continue to give him treatment and help him find a home.
"I hope he finds a home out of all this. I'm glad to know he's all right and not as serious as I thought it was," said Lanier.
