Dallas Co. Website Lists Traffic Ticket Offenders

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Instead of raising taxes officials in Dallas County are getting creative. The county has turned to public shame as a way to collect more than $200 Million in unpaid traffic tickets.
"I was lying in bed 2:30 in the morning and it hit me," explained Dallas County Commissioner Mike Cantrell.
Commissioner Cantrell came up with the idea of
publishing a website that features jail mug shots, addresses and the offense.
Joel Green is perhaps the county's most notorious ticket dodger. Green, who is listed as being from Desoto, owes the county more than $21,000.
Kevin Smith, from Dallas, is also on the lists of scofflaws and owes the county more than $18,000.
"We have had people call up and say 'I don't want my photo or information on that website'," says Commissioner Cantrell. "All they have to do is take care of their case."
Besides mug shots the county also wants to start using driver's license photos on the website. "I wouldn't want that," said North Texas driver Pat Tarpley.
Driver Allen Luteman thinks the idea could make a difference. "I'd probably take care of it before it got online, because I'm not sure I would be too happy if it was online," he said.
It may be a while before driver's license pictures are posted on the website, Dallas County is looking into whether or not they can show the photos and are waiting on a ruling from the state Attorney General.
