Candidates Making Final Push For Texas Voters

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were in Ohio Sunday night, fighting for the last few undecided voters before Tuesday's primaries.

But both candidates are still focused on Texas, where 193 delegates could decide the nomination. Each made their presence known in North Texas on Sunday with high-profile representatives.

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton was introduced by director and actor Rob Reiner and an event headlined by Gloria Steinem at JR's Bar and Grill in Dallas.

Clinton tackled an array of hot button topics as part of a last-minute push to push her mother over the edge.

"She understands that we need to so much to repair our relationships around the world and to have real comprehensive diplomacy and that it isn't about reaching people," said Clinton. "It's also about reaching out to people in the villages and in the grassroots."

Earlier in the day, Clinton's local Latino supporters marched in a rally to encourage voter turnout on Tuesday. Later, volunteers crammed into the senator's local headquarters to learn how to be precinct captains.

"I knew that Hillary was the right person for president, and I wanted to help her make a difference in Dallas," said volunteer Matt Andrade.

Eleventh-hour efforts were not limited to the Clinton campaign. For Senator Barack Obama, Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd and Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano held rallies and a town hall meeting in Dallas.

"We're out here to tell our colleagues in Texas that he's a great leader, has a great vision for the country," said Napolitano. "The turnout here will be key on Tuesday. It's exciting to be in Texas right now."

Obama supporters also gathered in homes across Texas and the United States to call Texas voters and encourage their support.

"It is very close, and we would like to see Obama win by a large margin here in Texas, and that's what today's all about," said Obama supporter Elizabeth Berry.

The latest polls still show Clinton and Obama in a virtual dead heat in Texas.
