Survive In '09 School Supply Drive
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
CBS 11 and TXA 21 are partnering with Kroger to collect school supplies for North Texas students in need.
New school supplies may be dropped off at North Texas Kroger stores July 30 through August 9 as part of the "Survive in '09" School Supply Drive. The North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank will then distribute the donated items to non-profit agencies serving low-income families throughout North Texas.
"A recent study indicated that one in five Texas children lives on the brink of hunger," said Gary Huddleston, Kroger Food Stores Director of Community Affairs. "Parents who are unable to adequately feed their children certainly aren't in a position to provide even the most basic school supplies without assistance. We're hoping to help meet that need."
The drive is part of CBS 11 and TXA 21's ongoing commitment to help North Texans "Survive in '09." Last February, the stations launched an ongoing series of "Survive in '09" news stories and community events focused on saving money, finding jobs, managing investments and debt, and dealing with stress.
"There's nothing more important that our television stations can do right now than to help those in our community find ways to get through this difficult time," said CBS 11 and TXA 21 President and General Manager Steve Mauldin. "This is just one of the ways we're working to do that."
