Wilson Loves New Attitude In Rangers Clubhouse
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
Texas Rangers pitcher C.J. Wilson spoke with 1310 The Ticket on Thursday afternoon. In the interview, he commented on the new attitude in the Rangers clubhouse, and the "dark cloud" that has been lifted from the team over the past two years.
"I can't even begin to tell you how much better it is now than it was two years ago," Wilson said of the new team chemistry. "And the most obvious thing I can say is, you look at the roster, the guys that we have now versus the guys that we had then."
Within the current Rangers lineup, Wilson named reliever Eddie Guardado and sluggers Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley as those who were "awesome" for chemistry. He also called former teammates Eric Gagne, David Delucci and Mark DeRosa "great."
On the opposite side, Wilson said, "Some dude were just, straight up, not good for chemistry."
Although no names were mentioned, Wilson and the interviewer alluded to former Texas Rangers manager Buck Showalter and former first baseman Mark Teixeira, now with the Atlanta Braves.
"They weren't interested in being part of a team. They were just interested in bank accounts," Wilson said of those unnamed individuals who did not foster team chemistry. "With any job, there's always going to be that guy that's just there to collect a paycheck and doesn't care about anybody."
However, more recently, Wilson said, more players have been able to speak up and have fun. He named Ian Kinsler and Ramon Vazquez as, "guys that were held back by the positions they were in last year."
"When you have a clubhouse that's too professional," Wilson explained, "you don't have an opportunity to express yourself."
