Rangers Analyst Grieve To Undergo Prostate Surgery

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Veteran Texas Rangers broadcaster Tom Grieve will undergo prostate surgery in June and will be out of the booth for two to three weeks.

The 60-year-old has been a team TV analyst for the past 14 years and has worked with the Rangers organization for nearly four decades.

Grieve's last game will be June 8 when the Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Rays.

"Many men my age find themselves in this situation," Grieve said in a release.  "I am told the odds for a complete recovery are very good.  I have complete confidence in my doctors, and have every expectation of being back in the booth two to three weeks after surgery.  While I'm out, I'll be watching every inning of every game and hope we're in first place when I settle back in."

Prior to his broadcast days, Grieve was a player with the Senators, Rangers, Mets and Cardinals from 1970-79. In 1976, he was the Rangers' Player of the Year and in 1984, became the team's general manger. Grieve was both the youngest person to serve in that position as well as the team's longest.

From 1980 to his days as an announcer, Grieve as worked in various front office positions.

Rangers radio analyst Victor Rojas will fill in for Grieve on television, the team announced.
