Fort Worth Church Remembers Murdered Pastor

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― It has no distinct view from the outside, but within the walls of the Church at Philadelphia, the spirit of brotherly love is not only within the passion of praise, but the praise of its past.

This Sunday, the Fort Worth church's service reflected on its past, including the tragic loss of its founder, and the faith they've held on to in order to build a better future.

Founder and Pastor Gregory Spencer's portrait still hangs in the entryway. He was killed in an Arlington hotel five years ago.

The new pastor of the church sent a message of remembering Spencer's leadership of then and his legacy today.

"This marks five years since he's been gone," said Reverend Ontario Jones. "But we want the community to know the church is alive and well."

Sunday morning the memory of his leadership is rejoiced by the congregation.

"He was a people person, he loved people, and he helped people," said church member Diane Evans.

The fervor of faith that fills the pews of the Church at Philadelphia, are grounded in its foundation and its founder.

"Dr. Spencer's legacy lives on," said Jackie Black, another member of the church. "He helped people in the Fort Worth Community. He helped throughout the nation."
