Texas Wife Of Terror Suspect Talks To CBS 11

ITALY, Texas (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― CBS 11 News has new and exclusive information about the man the FBI says tried to kill or injure scores of North Texans. Hosam Smadi's Texas wife says theirs was a true love story or at least it was for a time. The woman spoke to CBS 11's Jack Fink.

Rosie Duron didn't want to be seen during the CBS 11 interview, but wanted to be heard. She says, like most other people who know 19-year-old terror suspect Hosam Smadi, she was stunned when he was arrested for allegedly plotting to blow up the 60-story Fountain Place office tower in Dallas.

"I don't know this Sam they show on the news trying to blow up a building. I don't know that Sam at all," said Duron.

Duron still has a picture with Smadi on her MySpace page. She says they became close while working at a restaurant in Italy last year. After the two started dating, Duron eventually moved into Smadi's apartment.

"He was a very interesting person. I loved being around him. The more days passed by, we got to know each other. I fell in love with him," she said.

In time, Duron says Smadi proposed to her. "He asked me did I love him. Would I marry him? I was shocked. I was amazed." After thinking about it, she said yes, and records show they got married in July of 2008.

But according to Duron, their life together, in Smadi's apartment, only lasted several months. While she admits separating from her husband, Duron denies a report where her grandfather said Smadi paid her to get married, so he could stay in the United States longer.

Smadi was in the country illegally, after overstaying his 2007 visitor's visa. "I did not get paid to marry Sam. No I did not," Duron said adamantly. When asked if she was offered $5,000 she said, "No, not whatsoever."

Duron says her father wasn't even included in the few people who knew about her marriage to Smadi.

Duron says Smadi was a kind person and isn't the cold, violent, potential killer that he's accused of being. "Great guy. Wouldn't hurt a fly. Wonderful guy."

Duron has a three month old daughter, but Smadi is not the father. She says she will soon file for a divorce.

While Duron says she hasn't spoken to Smadi in a month, she plans on contacting him at the federal prison where he's being held.
