Prestonwood Pastor Has Prostate Cancer Surgery

PLANO (AP) ― The Rev. Jack Graham, pastor of a Plano megachurch and a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, has had surgery for prostate cancer and is taking a two-month sabbatical.

The 58-year-old Graham reportedly wrote the 28,000-member Prestonwood Baptist Church last week that the cancer was diagnosed in April during a routine checkup and subsequent biopsy.

He said he had successful surgery on May 14.

Graham kept the news of his health private "for a number of reasons" and went back to a reduced work schedule 10 days after surgery.

Earlier this month the church's personnel committee announced that Graham would be granted a sabbatical in honor of his 20th anniversary as pastor.

Graham called it "perfect timing."
