Stockyards To Become Battle Ground Over Kiss-In

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A Baptist Pastor says the "Queer Kiss-In" planned Saturday at the Fort Worth Stock Yards is an "in your face" provocation. He and his supporters plan to stand up to it.

Howard Caver is the pastor of a small congregation at the World Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth. But something big happened to him this week.

"This past Wednesday, I heard the Holy Spirit say, 'You need to drop what you're doing and you need to do it,'" Pastor Caver said.

Do what? Stand up to the gay kiss-in at the Fort Worth Stock Yards.

"And I said, 'but you know I'm busy. I don't like this. That's because when you do this type of thing you probably make as many enemies as you do friends," Pastor Caver said.

But he felt the planned kiss-in was a blatant show of sin.

"To me that was 'Citizens - in your face!'" Pastor Caver said.

Blake Wilkinson organized the kiss-in. He said, "Well, we like to challenge the status quo. It's not always easy to be GLBT."

Wilkinson and his radical group "Queer Liberaction" were also the ones who organized a protest in Fort Worth City Hall over the Rainbow Lounge investigation.

Both Wilkinson's and Pastor Caver's groups will be separated by a street and promise affection, not confrontation.

"We'll be giving kisses on the cheeks, lips, hugs just common place things that I think lots of times straight people take for granted," Wilkinson said.

"My plan is just to hold a sign of love," one of Pastor Caver's supporters said.

The Queer Kiss-In at the Fort Worth Stock Yards runs from 5pm to 6pm. The pastor and his supporters will be there from 4pm to 6pm.
