Potter's House Conference Empowering Women

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― For years, Hallie Miller lived without hope.  She served prison time for theft and forgery.

"I got hooked up with the wrong crowd and was enticed by money," she said.

After getting released from prison a few years ago, she decided to turn her life around.  She now has a good, steady job, with the help of an organization called TORI, Texas Offender Re-entry Initiative.

"I just learned how to live life again because I had lost hope," she said.

Hallie is one of many who will share her story with thousands of women during the Woman, Thou Art Loosed conference at Potter's House.  The conference, which begins tomorrow, is aimed at helping all women become more empowered.

"What bring us together is all of us have a struggle," said Tina Naidoo, TORI Executive Director.  "We all struggle with something."

During the three-day event, women will hear from speakers like Serita Jakes and Dodie Osteen. Kirk Franklin and Vickie Winans will perform.  There will also be a roundtable discussion on topics like marriage, health, finances and career.

Organizers expect women from all different backgrounds to attend, but they will have the same goal: to find inspiration.

"Changing the outlook of a woman changes the outlook of your family, your house," Naidoo said. "I bet if you if anybody come here depressed or in despair, they won't leave the same."
