Irving Couple Discovers Costly iPhone Glitch
by Stephanie Lucero
IRVING (CBS 11 News) ―
Like thousands of North Texans, an Irving couple purchased an Apple iPhone Friday. But when they opened their bank statement, they found a costly glitch.
Other customers may not even be aware the same thing has happened to them.
While Justin and Liz Broderick's new iPhone hasn't arrived yet, their checking account says they've paid for it twice.
"They told me, 'We're sorry about the glitch,' and I was like, it's pretty big glitch," said Justin.
The Brodericks have called customer service and gone back to the store where they purchased the phone, but they haven't received any answers from AT&T.
"I understand with some businesses there could be a glitch, you could be charged twice. That's fine, just give us a refund," said Liz. "Tell me that I'm going to be compensated some way; fix the problem."
The employees at the store where the Brodericks paid for the phone say they're aware of the problem. The company has sent store managers an e-mail explaining the glitch, say the employees.
But the Brodericks say they're still in the dark.
"That's part of my frustration," said Justin. "I believe if they can take out the money that quick, why can't they put the money back in equally as quickly."
A representative for AT&T said the company inadvertently placed a hold on the credit card and debit purchases of some customers who paid for the iPhone Friday. AT&T will pay any fees customers are charged by their banks.
The representative also said only a small percentage of customers were affected by the glitch.
