Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

The morning of Dec. 7, 1941... "a date which will live in infamy.'" On that morning, the Japanese mounted a surprise air and sea attack on Pearl Harbor that began World War II.

On the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, 353 Japanese planes took off from 6 carriers. The first wave of 183 places left at 6 a.m. and a second wave of 170 followed at 7:15 a.m. Pearl Harbor was the objective of the attack. (Photo courtesy National Archives and Records Administration)
