The all-day Ozzfest featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, North Texas' own Drowning Pool and seven other bands rocked Frisco's Pizza Hut Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008. About 30,000 were expected as the venue kicked off the stadium's extended hours, which had to be approved by the city council. Despite 104-degree temps, things did cool off for just a moment as the headbanging gave way to a somber tribute to Dallas' own Darrell Abbot. The founding member of metal band Pantera who was killed by a disturbed fan in 2004. Fans chanted his name when a who's who of metal and alternative music took the stage to pay him tribute in his home town.
