CFBISD Cheerleader Controversy Could Head To Court

Marianne Martinez
CARROLLTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A cheerleading controversy at a Carrollton high school may head to court.

Ron and Liz Laningham filed a lawsuit against the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District last year for not stopping alleged harassment against their daughter.

The parents say their daughter, who did not make the Creekview High School cheerleading squad, was harassed by a group of cheerleaders called the "Six Pack."

In the lawsuit, the parents claim their daughter suffered from the "spreading of sexually based rumors, threats of violence and severe mental harassment."

The lawsuit also states the parents complained to the school district several times, but officials did nothing to punish the alleged bullies.

Ron and Liz spoke on KRLD radio several weeks ago.

On Monday, Karley Osborn, one of the cheerleaders, spoke to KRLD's Ernie and Jay. She denied the bullying.

"The administration never said we were under investigation for being bullies," she said.

The Laninghams would not go on camera, but their attorney Harry Jones sent the following statement:

"We believe the facts will show the District did not take the Six Pack's actions seriously, did not discipline them sufficiently, and did not make wise decisions on how to administer the mandates of Title IX."

The school district spokesperson said they do not comment on pending litigation.
